BE NOT AFRAID, ONLY BELIEVE

Jesus had been informed about Jairus’ daughter, and was already on his way to Jairus’ house, but he had to attend to the woman with the issue of blood who had just been healed and needed to be made whole, to make her kind of faith public, for as many who desire their own miracle and don’t know how they would get to Jesus to receive it, to know that faith was all they needed. Jesus had to stop for the benefit of the down trodden and rejects who knew they would never be allowed to get close to him. He wanted them to know that all they needed to have was just a tiny little faith.

The naysayers from Jairus’ house arrived to make sure that what little faith was being stirred and joy is quenched; whether knowingly or unknowingly. They came with the news of hopeless finality; “…some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”. Imagine the silence, the hopelessness, the guilt on the part of the woman who just got healed, she may have wondered, “…its my fault he didn’t arrive on time to save the man’s twelve year old daughter, whose whole years of existence was the sum of her own aliment, imagine the turmoil, the lies that would be going through her mind…”. That news was meant to kill the joy of the moment and destroy what little hope that had arisen on the part of Mr. Jairus. Not only him, but also that of all the people present. And then to plant fear in their heart.

Nevertheless, immediately the evil news was delivered and Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” This is a tough order, yet, it is how we should all respond in the face of adversity and problems. It is the only way to win, the only way to see the glory of God, the only way to receive that miracle. Only Believe!

God’s ways are not our way, His thoughts are too far from ours, He is the beginning and the end of all. If only we can trust Him. If only we can hold on to his Word. Jairus did, just imagine if he didn’t, if he had left Jesus, to run home to weep and mourn, imagine if he did not believed the master but had responded to the news. Because he dared to believe, He saw the glory of God! His daughter was raised back to life.

Do you believe? Even the devil and his demons know who God is, they can never question the ability of God. It is we humans that doubt who God is and what He can do. I challenge you today; Dare to Believe!
