DOES GOD REALLY CARE?
“Jesus was asleep at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. Frantically they wakened him, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you even care that we are all about to drown?”
As evening fell, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”, and they promptly obeyed, but while on the journey, a terrible storm arose. High waves began to break into the boat until it was nearly full of water and about to sink, at this point, the disciples were already overwhelmed, there was nothing else to be done, waves poured into the boat, threatening to sink it. And Jesus was in the stern, head on a pillow, sleeping!
They roused him, saying, “Teacher, is it nothing to you that we’re going down?” Then he rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Quiet down!” And the wind fell, and there was a great calm! And he asked them, “Why were you so fearful? Don’t you even yet have confidence in me?”
The Disciples were walking in obedience, yet, they still experienced a great storm on their way. Even though they had Jesus, the Master of the Storms with them, notwithstanding, they were too overwhelmed by the raging storm and in trying to save themselves and the boat. Did they not know who was with them? What He is capable of? Yet all of their efforts did not bring any meaningful results; the storm was still raging. Maybe in their disorientated state, trying to save themselves and the boat, forget that Jesus was with them! Thankfully, they finally remembered Jesus was in the boat with them, and they beckoned to him, and He answered them promptly and silenced the storm, there was a great clam, and they arrived at their destination.
No one ever promised that it was going to be a smooth sail, even when we are walking in obedience. We live in a fallen world; as a result of sin, so many disfunctions abound. Nevertheless, we who know our God, and have been chosen and accepted in the Beloved, Jesus has promised to always be with us. And it does not matter what comes, we, just as the Disciples are going to arrive at our God ordained destination; even though the journey may seem tumultuous. The Disciples did arrive. Although they had employed their strength and expertise, as some of them were fishermen, it didn’t work. It was until they called on Jesus that they experienced Peace and progress.
Nobody said it was going to be easy, but Jesus did promise to be with you. Why don’t you call on Him today, He is already there with you, all you have to do is to let go and let God! He knows what to do, He is the Master of the Storms!
