IS YOUR LIFE REALLY YOURS
Adam the first man, did not get to choose the Garden he wanted to be in. Nevertheless, he was given specific instructions to; “Work it and Keep it”.
WORK IT: to work it, involves exertion. And to achieve success at any kind of work, the application of knowledge, skill, and strength is key for achieving a desirable outcome.
‘But I did not choose to be born, why should I be expected to work at what I did not have a say in’, You may ask. Or ‘Who cares, it’s my life, I can decide how I want to live it’. …Hold it! “… What have you that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if it were not a gift?” It is not your life, it is God’s Life, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul”. God gave you life, and He expects you to work it and keep it. He is sovereign. ‘But WHY’? You may ask? The ‘why’ is because you would one day account for how you lived your life to the owner. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil”.
KEEP IT: to keep, means to maintain. The life that God has given you is not to be handled with disrespect and abandonment. You are to work at keeping it beautiful. How can you keep it beautiful; you need to know what ‘Beautiful’ is in God’s standard? How can you know this? You need to know God. “How can a young man/woman keep his/her ways, except the Lord”?
To have knowledge, skill and strength to Work and Keep the life that God has given you, you need to get connected to the One who created you and gave you life. You cannot LIVE life on your own terms; you’ll only be existing, because every success and achievement you get outside God will only lead to death. This is because you will never be satisfied. (“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world”). And in an effort to get satisfaction outside God, which is not possible; you will be willing to do ‘ANYTHING’!
This command “WORK IT AND KEEP IT” applies to everybody. To know the kind of material you are made up of, the abilities and skills God has deposited on the inside of you, you need to be familiar with the manual of your life; THE BIBLE, and also be in relationship with the Creator of your life. “For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life”. Many lives have been made by the WORD of God (THE BIBLE) because they allowed the Spirit of God to finish its work in their life; while others have perished, because they wanted to use their human understanding to interpret the WORD of God (THE BIBLE). Nobody put you in the state you are in right now. You are here today because of the choices you have made over the years. Nevertheless, it is not too late for change.
LIFE! You don’t get to choose its beginning, but you can decide the outcome!
